Anaheim Ducks Forward Trevor Zegras Receives Hearing For Hit On Red Wings' Michael Rasmussen
The NHL's Department of Player Safety has made an announcement involving an incident in Sunday's game between the Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks.
Anaheim's Trevor Zegras will have a hearing today for interference against Detroit's Michael Rasmussen.
This announcement highlights a serious flaw in the NHL's officiating that must be addressed, as the on-ice officials in the game did not give Zegras a penalty for the hit that injured Rasmussen, a suspendable one.
The referees even reviewed the hit that Zegras threw, and still determined it was not enough for a penalty.
The NHL, contradicting their own employees, announces just 12hrs later that it will indeed result in a suspension for Zegras.
As the Red Wings look to climb the
Eastern Conference standings, in hopes for a playoff clinch for the first time in quite a while, they sadly face another setback.
It will be interesting to see what the NHL will hand Zegras, discipline wise.
It appears that the Red Wings will be without forward Rasmussen, alongside another injured forward
Andrew Copp, due to their roster move this morning.
In a 5-4 overtime win and a meaningful 2 points for the Red Wings, they ultimately took the loss with the injury of Rasmussen, their former ninth overall draft pick in the 2017 NHL draft.
Zegras has been battling a knee injury and has only played 34 games this season, and he will now face more time away from his actions that are not needed in todays game of hockey.
A dangerous play nonetheless, and we hope the NHL delivers proper punishment to Trevor Zegras.
