Detroit Red Wings Set to Part Ways With Goaltender At NHL Trade Deadline
One of those several assets may come as a surprise to some.
"Detroit has pushed its way into the playoff picture this season, and GM Steve Yzerman would be well-served in helping the team stay there by making a few key additions at the deadline -- namely, another center and a defenseman."
With their current cap space available, $7.84 million, it is drastically more than most teams in a playoff scenario, Yzerman surely has some playing room.
ESPN listed several players available for the Red Wings, and a goaltender has landed on their trade block.
32-year old
Alex Lyon will reportedly be moved by the NHL's March 7 trade deadline. Lyon, a unrestricted free agent after this season, carries a cap hit of $900,000 and will hit the free agent market this summer.
Yzerman plans to take advantage of an asset that is set to be lost this off-season, and attempt to retrieve some kind of return.
Lyon has posted a 11-6 record this season alongside a 2.74GAA, where veteran goaltender Cam Talbot is 16-11, carrying a 2.88GAA.
Despite Lyon showcasing better numbers, it's clear who Todd McLellan believes their number one goaltender is, and that's 30-year old Cam Talbot.
Lyon is not the only asset on the chopping block, according to ESPN, several other notable names are on the market for Detroit.
