Completed trade grants the Red Wings their starting goaltender: Yzerman may have just saved Detroit's season

Steve Yzerman made the bold move to acquire veteran goalie John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks, as he hopes he can save the Detroit Red Wings from elimination from the playoffs next season, and possibly his own job.
The Detroit Red Wings are intent on making the playoffs next season. In doing so, Steve Yzerman traded for the Anaheim Ducks' goalie John Gibson.
Gibson has played on perennially bad Ducks teams since their last appearance in the playoffs in 2018, when they lost in the first round.
Gibson is a career starting goalie in the NHL and has played all of his 506 games with the Ducks. His career record is 204-217-63, 24 shutouts, 2.89 GAA, and .910 save percentage.
With these kinds of stats, he could be a revelation in the Detroit Red Wings' net, who have experienced inconsistency and haven't seen the playoffs since Dylan Larkin's rookie year, when the team had a duo of Jimmy Howard and Petr Mrazek in the net.
Alex Lyon, Cam Talbot, and Mrazek (as a retread) haven't been the ones capable of delivering the team to a playoff series.

In order to improve significantly, you have to spend sums of cash for the right talent, and for this postseason, John Gibson is his Hail Mary.
Gibson could turn out to be the one who stabilizes the team in the crease, but we're still not sure the offense is up to par yet.
Though we'll find out soon enough whether or not Steve Yzerman has been building the puzzle with the right pieces.
