New insight has unveiled what it would cost the Detroit Red Wings' general manager, Steve Yzerman, if he were to acquire the Pittsburgh Penguins' $92M star, Erik Karlsson, this offseason, and it's shocking.

Majority of the Red Wings' fanbase is more than aware of Detroit's desperate need to bring in some immense talent this offseason.
This is especially if the organization intends to be contenders and if they hope to break their nine-year playoff absence during the 2025/26 NHL season.
And whilst this Original Six franchise is seeking to add that strength to their roster, coincidentally enough, the Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to depart with their $92M star at the Sam time.
That star being the Penguins' Erik Karlsson.
This ultimately means the Detroit Red Wings could undoubtedly become a potential landing spot for this talent.

The Detroit Red Wings could not only use an upgrade to their blue line for the upcoming season, but Karlsson could be a great mentor for the organization's Moritz Seider as well.
With that, NHL insider, Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report, revealed a potential trade between the Red Wings and Penguins for Erik Karlsson.
Take a look:
«Red Wings acquire:
Erik Karlsson

Penguins acquire:
Carter Mazur
2027 first-round pick»

This trade would give Detroit the opportunity to go all-in on the season, yet, they would still be able to keep their 2026 first-round pick, which many teams would want to keep in case they win the lottery and steal Gavin McKenna off the draft market.
The Red Wings would ultimately acquire Karlsson, who has two years left on his eight-year, $92 million deal with the Penguins, and although that is a massive salary, Detroit does in fact have the cap space to make a move erupt.
Do you think the Detroit Red Wings should acquire the Pittsburgh Penguins' Erik Karlsson this offseason?
