An analyst addressed the possibility of seeing Connor McDavid with the Detroit Red Wings, saying the team "could offer him a level of depth he's never experienced."

Connor McDavid's contract with the Edmonton Oilers expires at the end of the current season. The best player in the world has been eligible to sign an extension since July 1st, but hasn't signed anything yet. As he mentioned on multiple occasions in interviews, "everything's on the table," meaning he could end up leaving the Oilers, the only team he's played for so far in his NHL career.
Although many reports suggest he won't leave the team, rumours about his departure won't stop until he signs.
Many teams have no chance at all to get him, but for a team like the Detroit Red Wings, who's up and coming on the ice and has enough cap space to sign him, it's very interesting to read.

Red Wings Potential Pitch To Connor McDavid Revealed By The Athletic

Max Bultman, The Athletic's writer covering the Detroit Red Wings, wrote that winning for an Original Six franchise is special, and that after spending the last decade building a strong prospect pool, Detroit could offer much more depth than he ever experienced in Edmonton.
In his own words:
"How about the chance to bring a proud, Original Six franchise back to glory? No, not «that» Original Six franchise. And, well, no, not that one either. But winning the Stanley Cup in Detroit still has a special, historic tint to it, and with McDavid in the fold, the path back to that becomes a whole lot clearer for the Red Wings.

They have spent the better part of the last decade building up a strong collection of young talent, some of which is already making an NHL impact, and some of which has yet to arrive. That could offer a level of depth McDavid has never truly been afforded in Edmonton."
McDavid will become the highest-paid player in the NHL, wherever he ends up.
It'll be interesting to see if Steve Yzerman is ready to break the bank to get him.
