Could Red Wings have chance to pick up Swedish star?
There was almost nothing that went right for Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson this year...could Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman come knocking?
After having missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 9th straight year (and 6th straight year under GM Steve Yzerman), the Red Wings are going to be facing increased pressure to make moves in order to put them back in the postseason.
In Vancouver, almost nothing went right for star forward Elias Pettersson and many speculate that he could use a change of scenery.
What are the chances that Yzerman could come calling for Pettersson, who wouldn't come cheap via trade?
Pettersson's agent JP Barry made an appearance on the Donnie and Dhali Show and said that it
wasn't surprising to him that his client could potentially be traded at some point in the summer because after all, the NHL is a business.
Not really surprised. It's a business.
Petterson had some of the lowest output in his career this year, scoring only 45 points (15G, 30A) in 64 games. He's also under contract through 2032 with an AAV (average annual value) of $11.6 million.
Elias Pettersson had a notable problem with ex-teammate JT Miller
Recently, Canucks president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford (a former Detroit Red Wings goaltender) said that ex-Vancouver forward JT Miller
attempted to fix the fractured relationship between himself and Pettersson, but to no avail.
JT tried hard to help fix the situation. A lot of people in our organization worked on it, and we had hoped that it could get back to where it was a year ago, because the same two players played a year ago, both had good years, and the team won the division.
Miller was traded to the New York Rangers, the club he started his NHL career with; neither the Canucks nor the Rangers ended up qualifying for the postseason.
