At the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, the Detroit Red Wings may have picked up the next Brad Marchand with the selection of Swedish forward Albin Grewe.

One aspect that has been lacking in recent years for the Detroit Red Wings in the eyes of fans is the "grit" factor.
Far too often, the team was too easy to play against and physically outmatched by the opposition; nobody could forget the horrific 2 games in late February 2023 against the divisional foe Ottawa Senators.
GM Steve Yzerman may have helped to solve some of this issue with his selection of Swedish forward Albin Grewe in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft; while the team may have been looking to move on from him, his value has suddenly gone back up.
The 24 year old Grewe has imitated NHL pest Brad Marchand with his recent play in the Allsvenskan playoffs for Djurgårdens IF.
After making the selection with the 66th overall pick, Yzerman discussed the aspects of Grewe's game that he liked.
He's very competitive. He's aggressive, he gets in there. He gets pushed, he pushes back.

We liked his combination of competitiveness and skill and he's a strong skater. I like the player, he competes hard, he's got some skill and he can skate.

Grewe has only played in 11 games in North America for the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2020-21; he had 2 assists. The majority of his playing career has been spent overseas.
Is this a player who could have helped the Red Wings solve their toughness issue had he developed sooner?
