Detroit Red Wings acquire Kyle Connor from the Winnipeg Jets in a costly trade proposal
While reunions are nice in theory, acquiring Kyle Connor in trade from the Winnipeg Jets might be more costly than Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings hoped for.
Acquiring a player like
Kyle Connor might be the next step in ending the Red Wings' perpetual playoff drought.
How much would you give up for nearly a decade of missing the playoffs? Well, Heavy.com has proposed a trade that might throw up some red flags for some, and others, it might be worth the risk.
In another trade that seems like right out of NHL EA '25, Heavy.com has gone wild with spending:
Kyle Connor returning home to Detroit would be a dream
It'd certainly end the team's playoff drought and bring Connor home to Michigan, a Shelby Township product. He's been playing up north in Winnipeg his entire career.
This season he played 82 games and scored 97 points (41-56) and was one of the team's best forwards aside from
Nikolaj Ehlers (now in Carolina) and
Mark Scheifele.
The Red Wings shouldn't even consider moving half of that talent or assets without a guarantee for an extension or a sign-and-trade in place.
Connor is in the final year of his $50 million deal, and this deal is essentially lopsided.
While Connor would solve more issues than create, this is a bad deal all around, as the rebuild will continue, and all three prospects have a future in Detroit.
