Detroit Red Wings reportedly in on star forward placed on Dallas' trade block

Although the Detroit Red Wings' blue line is the lineup area expected to take most of Steve Yzerman's attention in the offseason, a forward recently placed on the trade block by the Dallas Stars could change his plans.

Indeed, multiple sources stated that Jason Robertson could be available on the trade market.

In Dallas, the team could be looking to make some changes after another disappointing playoff exit. Robertson's contract will expire at the end of next season, and with Mikko Rantanen locked in for eight years, Robertson could be expendable for the Stars.

Whenever a player like him is up for grabs, any teams close to making the playoffs will be interested, including Detroit.

However, they won't be the only team to make an offer to get him, as many more organizations with more cap space and trade assets are poised to show interest.

But Yzerman is under a lot of pressure to make the team better before the start of next season, which could push him to make a desperate trade.

With the Red Wings, Robertson could do some real damage, but some fans may not like what it costs to get him.

Unless many first-round picks are involved, a top prospect or key veterans will leave the team.

With his controversial end-of-season comments, team captain Dylan Larkin may have emerged as a potential trade asset. It's hard to say what his value will be on the market, but it's unlikely that the Stars accept a one-for-one deal with Robertson.

Last season, Robertson, 25, scored 80 points, including 35 goals, in 82 games with the Stars. After an injury forced him to miss a few playoff games this year, he scored six points in 11 games before being eliminated in five games by the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals.
