Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks combine for 2nd trade of the summer: A blockbuster proposal emerges
A blockbuster trade proposal between the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks involving Mason McTavish is gaining traction.
According to a new report, Detroit may be looking to complete a deal to acquire Mason McTavish in an effort to address its top-six scoring need.
Here's what the trade could look like:
The Ducks would receive a significant return: Brandsegg-Nygard, a first-round pick, and Carter Mazur.
Detroit, meanwhile, finally finds its second-line center. Adding McTavish would ease the burden on
Dylan Larkin, adding a lot of depth to the offensive group.
That said, Chris Johnston warned fans on the Steve Dangle Podcast about how McTavish could decide to negotiate with the Ducks:
"I don't know that the relationship has necessarily gone bad there he doesn't have to take any old offer, he's got leverage."
In Anaheim, the promising core of young, talented players could entice McTavish to remain with the team. After
Trevor Zegras was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Ducks are likely to do anything they can to keep him.
If McTavish doesn't hit the trade block, an offer sheet might not be out of the question, per Frank Seravalli:
"I think a change of scenery would be good for him, I think there's a lot of teams that are interested; some teams have tried to work on...an offer sheet"
McTavish, the third overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, is just 22 but has already shown he can compete against the best players. He had the best season of his career last year with 22 goals and 30 assists in 82 games.
