A player drafted by the Detroit Red Wings at the last NHL Draft decided to sign a contract in Europe instead of pursuing his career in North America.

Slovakian forward Michal Svrcek, drafted 119th overall by the Detroit Red Wings a few weeks ago, has confirmed he will remain with Brynäs IF in Sweden for the upcoming season.
The 18-year-old made the announcement in an interview with Slovak TV outlet TVnoviny:
"This week I agreed with my agent and Detroit's management that I will stay in Brynäs for another season, where I will try to start the season in the A-team."
The young winger has been developing in the Brynäs system since 2021.
Last season, Svrcek scored 14 goals and 30 points in 30 games, also earning a brief stint with the senior team, where he added a goal and two assists in 17 games.
The decision comes after weeks of speculation that Svrcek might join the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL, a team that owns his CHL rights.
Just days ago, his agent Allan Walsh discussed the possibility of a move to North America.
"We're actively involved in the process with Michal and Detroit in figuring out where the best place is for him to play and working quickly to make a decision in collaboration with each other."

While fans in Windsor and Detroit were hopeful to see Svrcek play in North America, the process appears to be on hold, at least for another year.
But his arrival appears inevitable. Svrcek had already hinted at a strong connection with the Red Wings organization in an interview, showing he's interested to come to Detroit at some point:
"I felt like Detroit could draft me. I talked to them a lot and had great meetings. I was not surprised. It was a great moment. I've enjoyed every moment (at camp). I'm so happy."

Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the Detroit Red Wings.
