The Red Wings have announced a 2-year contract extension for towering RFA forward Elmer Soderblom, who skated in 26 games for Detroit in 2024-25.
While the Detroit Red Wings remain
reasonably active in free agency, having already brought in several new faces, they've re-signed a player of their own who they envision taking on a bigger role before too long.
Towering 6'8" forward Elmer Soderblom, who was an RFA, has been re-signed to a 2-year deal with an AAV (average annual value) of $1.125 million.
Soderblom, who was taken with the 159th pick by Detroit in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, initially made the Red Wings roster out of training camp in 2022, and even scored his 1st NHL goal in his debut against the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens in Detroit's opening game of the year.
He's since mostly played with the AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins, where he skated in 61 games last year and had 29 points (13G, 19A).
He was called up to the Red Wings in January of this season and eventually skated in 26 games, and had 11 points (4G, 7A).
It feels like I improved a lot this year. I am just trying to get better in some areas that I need to improve and be an even better player next year.
I want to keep working on every detail. It takes a lot of small details to play in this league. Be physical and use my size to my advantage, and keep playing my game.
