The Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs have been linked in a trade for forward Nick Robertson, in a deal that would be intriguing for both clubs.

According to NHL Insider Christ Johnston, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings could be the perfect trade partners.
The Maple Leafs have been busy in the past trying to get rid of talent, of which they need to make room in the lineup for other players and prospects, but Brad Treliving has failed to do so.
Now, the two are linked, as the Red Wings could make a deal for former 2nd-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Nick Robertson.
The forward could use the opportunity to gain a fresh start in the NHL and become a middle-six goal-scoring forward for the Red Wings, who could use the injection of youth in the lineup.
From Johnston on Leafs Report:

"I get the sense the Leafs front office has been looking at trading away some of the forward depth and haven't really been able to find anything that makes sense, which is why you still have all of Kampf, Robertson, and Jarnkrok with the team."

Robertson, along with David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok, are players whom the team has failed to move on from, despite their best efforts.

Nick Robertson has been linked to the Red Wings before

The former 53rd overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft has been on the Red Wings' radar before. He could add a reliable secondary-scoring option to the lineup that has been missing.
In 69 games with the Maple Leafs, he scored 22 points (7-15) and had requested a trade from the Leafs before.
Brad Treliving and the team have failed to honor his request, but have kept him around a Maple Leafs team that hasn't been able to get out of its own way during playoff competition.
Maybe under Todd McLellan, Robertson can thrive in a fresh start and give Hockeytown a new face to cheer for in the winged wheel.
Robertson has played a total of 156 NHL games and scored 56 points (32-24) all as a Maple Leaf.
