A reporter closely covering the Detroit Red Wings isn't satisfied with the performances of a 'star' goalie so far in a recent paper for 'The Athletic'.

Last night, the Detroit Red Wings faced the Buffalo Sabres and their former goaltender Alex Lyon.
Many key veterans were in the lineup for the first time since the start of the preseason, such as Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, and Ben Chiarot, but many younger players were also in the lineup, like Carter Mazur and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard.
As for the Sabres, most of their regular players were in the lineup.
Buffalo got the upper hand and won 5-2, despite being outshot 28-20 by the Wings.
Cossa faced 20 shots and made only 16 saves, which is good for a .800 SV%.
In a recent paper for The Athletic, Max Bultman shared an analysis of his game to explain why he believes Cossa's stock is down.

A Lot More Is Expected From Sebastian Cossa

The Detroit Red Wings' 15th overall pick in 2021 is expected to return to the AHL next season. After struggling in last year's playoffs, Steve Yzerman mentioned in his end-of-season press conference that he wasn't ready for the NHL, right before acquiring top goalie John Gibson in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks.
With Cam Talbot and Gibson, the team has a strong goalie tandem.
But Cossa had another chance to prove himself entering camp.
What's disappointing is that once again, he not only failed to take the opportunity, but also made massive mistakes in the process.
Bultman noted:
"Even more glaring was Buffalo's fourth goal, which was Thompson's second of the night, in which Cossa was way out of position, and swimming, for an extended stretch of time before Thompson finally put it home.

There were at least two - and arguably three - points of that sequence in which Buffalo had the puck on its sticks, in a scoring position, with a largely open net.

I didn't have an opinion in either direction on Cossa's preseason debut against the Chicago Blackhawks, and I'm certainly not going to make too big a deal out of a couple of exhibition goals regardless. But for a player who could really use a strong start this year, after a rocky finish last year, I haven't seen that yet."

Check out Thompson's goal:
If he doesn't have a great season in the AHL, it wouldn't be surprising to see Cossa's time with the Red Wings end.
