«I'm not an insider telling you the Oilers are keen on him or he's keen on the Oilers. But in looking at what Edmonton now needs, having lost power forwards
Evander Kane and
Dylan Holloway in the past two years, as well as aggressive forwards
Warren Foegele,
Corey Perry,
Connor Brown and
Viktor Arvidsson - Pacioretty would might well be an excellent fit here, especially come playoff time,» wrote Staples, The Athletic
Another one of those would be the Detroit Red Wings, who'd love to see the former Wolverine suit up in the winged wheel.
Pacioretty not only has family there, played college hockey there, but has been coaching hockey in Michigan recently.
Last season, he played 37 games with the Maple Leafs and scored 13 points (5-8).
Pacioretty, 36, has gone through some major health scares recently and could be a great forward in limited usage.
He could provide much-needed leadership in a locker room that failed to live up to expectations from fans and the front office. Not to mention, his playoff experience would be beneficial in guiding the younger forwards in the lineup on a successful path.
While the Maple Leafs would love to have Pacioretty return to the lineup, he can pick and choose where he lands next, and his home of Michigan might not be a bad idea.
