Detroit Red Wings cut standout player: 3 total sent to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins
The Detroit Red Wings head coach, Todd McLellan, is making surgical cuts to the lineup at this point; he sent three more players back to the AHL, including Michigan standout forward Carter Mazur.
The Detroit Red Wings may have found spots
in the lineup for three prospects six days before the start of the regular season.
Today, the Red Wings sent
three more players back to the Grand Rapids Griffins, and you won't believe who was sent down.
Of the three players who were sent back to mature in the AHL, there was Carter Mazur (a former 3rd-round pick), goaltender
Michal Postava, and defenseman
William Wallinder.
The move brings the total players on the Red Wings roster to 25, with 14 forwards, nine defensemen, and two goalies remaining.
Did Carter Mazur deserve to get sent down to the AHL?
Last season, Mazur played 1 game in the NHL and wouldn't make an impact for the Red Wings. Of course, it is difficult with a limited look.
Instead, he'd play a majority of the season in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins, scoring 15 points (7-8) in 20 games for the Red Wings affiliate.
Mazur was originally a 3rd-round pick of the Red Wings, selected 70th overall in 2021.
Will there be a point during his professional career when he can make the Red Wings roster? Or will he be a bust?
