Detroit Red Wings unveil first celebratory event for Centennial season
The Detroit Red Wings organization has unveiled its first celebratory event of their Centennial season in an official press release.
The next season will be a historic one in Detroit. The team will either return to the playoffs or miss the postseason tournament for the 10th straight year. Whatever happens, the organization will celebrate its 100th season in the NHL, offering fans many nights of celebrations.
In a massive announcement made today, the Wings revealed their regular season schedule, but also the special themed nights which will be held at Little Caesars Arena to commemorate the 100th anniversary all year long:
"For 100 years, the heart of Detroit has beat to the rhythm of blades on ice and the roar of the crowd. From smoky rinks to championship parades, generations have grown up dreaming in red and white. Legends were born, dynasties built, and through every triumph and trial, the fans never left. The city changed, but the spirit of Hockeytown only grew stronger. 100 Years of Hockeytown - a century of passion, pride, and the unbreakable bond between a team and its people."
Indeed, the team shared that "Eras nights" will be held during the season, to pay tribute to the franchise's rich history. In total, seven ceremonies will take place.
Detroit Red Wings Release Full 'Eras Nights' Schedule
Next up, on November 7th, against the New York Rangers, the Red Wings will pay homage to the 1950s and beyond, when the Production Line reigned and the team collected four Stanley Cups.
The franchise also confirmed plans to relive timeless moments from Olympia Stadium and Joe Louis Arena on December 21st against the Washington Capitals:
"Two iconic buildings. Two storied legacies. A time of great change that laid the foundation for a new generation of fans and players. This is the story of the teams who closed one chapter and opened the next in Joe Louis Arena."
January 31st will showcase one of the most anticipated theme nights, focusing on the Steve Yzerman era, from the Russian Five to the Bruise Brothers.
The transition into the 2000s, an era marked by names like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Lidstrom, will be celebrated on March 6th against the Florida Panthers.
On March 28th, against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Wings will pay tribute to the Michigan roots of the organization.
Finally, the unsung heroes behind the scenes and in the stands will also be featured in the celebrations, ahead of a game against the New Jersey Devils on April 11th.
