Ahead of tonight's matchup against the Utah Hockey Club, the Detroit Red Wings have announced another roster move involving a young player.
One of the classic refrains that fans who are content to continue displaying extreme patience with the glacier-like pace of the Detroit Red Wings rebuilding process under GM Steve Yzerman is "wait for the kids".
There's no denying that Yzerman had to rebuild Detroit's prospect pool when he returned in April 2019, which had been completely decimated by former GM Ken Holland in a vain effort to continue their playoff streak.
While it's fair to debate just how much of an impact several of Detroit's prospects will be able to make once they reach the NHL level, one particular prospect has earned a promotion to take the next step in his career.
Finnie has had an impressive year with the Blazers, scoring 84 points (37G, 47A) in 55 games. In 2023-24, he had 59 points (19G, 40A) in 62 games.
Always in the right place, he consistently influences the play even without the puck. A non-stop engine powers him up and down the rink, making up space to poke away pucks on the backcheck and force turnovers on the forecheck. He enters every battle with a couple of shoulder checks to find options and has the skill to connect.
