The Detroit Red Wings players will be conducting meetings with GM Steve Yzerman and Todd McLellan after their 4-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Detroit Red Wings finished their season sixth in the Atlantic Division, with a record of 39-35-8. With no shot at the playoffs, many players are heading home for the rest of the offseason, and some for the golf course.
Before they do, they'll be meeting up with the front office and Head Coach Todd McLellan. The team was fortunate to have a day off after their back-to-back games before the season ended.
Now comes the time for evaluations and important discussions before they part ways for the Spring.
McLellan wants to forge a game plan with his players and find ways to improve.
"We've got a lot of stuff to finish over the next three or four days," McLellan said. "The meetings that we have with players are really important."
Obviously, where the Red Wings finished isn't to McLellan and GM Steve Yzerman's liking, and it'll require a buy-in from all players, and possibly a new philosophy to lead into the 2025-2026 season.
"We'll give them some feedback on what we saw or what we think they can become and what we think they need to do, and we'll get feedback from them on us," McLellan said. "Are we getting them the right information, are we giving them what they need so they're fully prepared
For some players, it'll require a change in nutritional requirements, and adding size when it comes to rookies like Marco Kasper and Simon Edvinsson.
While for veterans, it's that plus a way of finding out how to improve in all zones of play on the ice.
The Red Wings finished the 2024-2025 season shy of a wild-card spot in the playoffs and need to improve, as they finished with a -24 goal differential, 70.1 PK %, and 86 points per StatMuse.
