With Craig Conroy's goal to rebuild the Calgary Flames organization, Rasmus Andersson could be next on the trade block, and could be a game-changer for the Red Wings organization if Steve Yzerman reaches out.
The Detroit Red Wings desperately need help on the blue line. While there are
Moritz Seider and
Simon Edvinsson on the top-pairing, there's quite a drop-off after this.
In order for the Red Wings to improve as an organization, the quality of players will have to improve in the lineup. One blueliner who could help the Red Wings reach the postseason could be
Rasmus Andersson.
Andersson has been a trade candidate for the Flames for some time now, and it looks like he could get a fresh start soon, thanks to Craig Conroy.
As reported by NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, Andersson wants a fresh start, and the Flames could find suitors for the 28-year-old defenseman.
Andersson has been a reliable presence on Calgary's blueline, proving himself a capable two-way player, scoring 31 goals in the last three years, and would be a rental for a contending team that doesn't decide to extend him after July.
Yzerman could fit him underneath the Red Wings' cap space, at $4.5 million AAV, and would be a great two-way player for Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson to learn from.
Though the name of the game for this trade will be assets, as the Calgary Flames rebuild will continue to accumulate draft capital prior to the 2025 Draft.
Could Andersson be a key role in the Red Wings organization should GM Steve Yzerman make a move?
