The Detroit Red Wings were deemed a prime landing spot for the 23-year-old former fourth overall pick Bowen Byram.

The Buffalo Sabres missed the playoffs for the 14th straight year despite a talented young core leading the team. They even made significant acquisitions over the last trade deadlines, notably getting Josh Norris from the Ottawa Senators earlier this year and Bowen Byram from the Colorado Avalanche last year.
According to a new report, Byram, set to hit free agency on July 1st, could be a great target for the Detroit Red Wings and Steve Yzerman.
Yzerman will need to bring in some quality reinforcements this summer if he wants his team to return to the playoff landscape, especially at the blue line.
Byram could be an interesting player to partner with Moritz Seider on the first pair, and could play a great role on the team's power play.
However, nothing says the Wings will be able to sign him. Indeed, during his exit interview, Byram stated he would be happy to be back in Buffalo next season and excited to start the process with General Manager Kevyn Adams:
"We have a great crew of guys in the locker room and a lot of great players. It's tough when things don't work out in terms of success for the team. We'll regroup and come back next season ready to go.

And in terms of my contract, I think I'll talk to my camp and talk to Kevyn [Adams] and we'll figure out what the next step is. I'm excited for that process. Kevyn's great to work with and very communicative of what he wants and what he thinks is best for myself and the team."

Last season, Byram, 23, scored 38 points in 82 games with the Sabres. Many teams are expected to be interested in him during free agency, meaning the Red Wings will need to make a great offer if they want to get him to come to Detroit.
