Detroit Red Wings Deliver Troubling Injury Update On Forward Andrew Copp
The Detroit Red Wings lost forward Andrew Copp to injury during the 2nd period of today's overtime loss to the Wild, and the update on his health isn't encouraging.
The overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild this afternoon at Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit wasn't the only loss that the
Detroit Red Wings experienced.
He did not return for the rest of the game, having been officially ruled out by the Red Wings.
As explained by head coach Todd McLellan afterward, Copp likely isn't going to be able to play in tomorrow's game against the Anaheim Ducks, also at Little Caesars Arena (6:30 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
Copp joined an on-ice melee late in the 2nd period after a massive body check from Alex DeBrincat that rocked defenseman
Brock Faber behind the Detroit net.
He appeared to injure himself while trying to pry Minnesota's Matt Boldy off of DeBrincat, who had raced down the ice to confront him after the hit on his teammate; Copp was favoring his shoulder as he got back to his skates.
Andrew Copp is playing in his 3rd year with the Red Wings
Copp is playing in his 3rd year with the Red Wings after inking a 5-year contract from general manager Steve Yzerman presented to him in the summer of 2022, giving him a chance to play for his hometown team.
Copp, who has also played for the Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers, has 22 points (10G, 12A) in 55 games played this year.
Right now, it remains to be determined whether the Red Wings will re-call a player from the Grand Rapids Griffins in Copp's place for tomorrow's game.
