The Detroit Red Wings have a player who's poised to break out this season in center Marco Kasper, as an emergency recall from the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2024, he's found himself at the NHL level, a dream scenario.
The
Detroit Red Wings have experienced some unexpected movement from the AHL after Marco Kasper's emergency recall in 2024-25.
He'd end up playing the rest of the season in the NHL, center
Patrick Kane, and
Alex DeBrincat on the 2nd-line. While posting career highs, 19 goals, and 37 points.
Marco Kasper's Rookie MVP Season As A Red Wing
Kasper would be in the running for the Calder Trophy, but would earn Red Wings rookie MVP instead.
«It's really cool to be chosen for that award,» said Kasper, who led all NHL rookies with 17 goals from Jan. 1- April 17. «It's always an honor to receive something like that because it just shows that us young players get great opportunities, and we take pride in that.
This season, he's poised for a breakout in Hockeytown, after a solid showing in the IIHF World Championships, tallying 7 points (3-4) in 8 games with Team Austria.
The former 8th overall pick has been working on his game in the hopes that he'll grow bigger, stronger, and be a difficult piece on the chessboard to move.
In addition, he's trying to improve his shot and provide more offense for the Red Wings, who unfortunately lack the kind of depth scoring that would secure a spot in the playoffs.
He's ultimately found a new role in the
Red Wings as the 2nd-line center, for now.
Kasper finds himself on a Red Wings team celebrating their 100th birthday, with the Centennial Celebration taking place.
Can Kasper find the back of the net consistently and score 40 or more points in 2025-26?
