Detroit Red Wings goalie prospect leads team to Memorial Cup Finals with 23-0-0 record
Red Wings goaltending prospect Rudy Guimond has taken the next step in his professional career, as he'll be playing for the 2025 Memorial Cup.
The Red Wings have no shortage of goaltending prospects in the system, and could soon add another by the name of Arvid Holm.
But sometimes lost in the shuffle of goalie prospects is Rudy Guimond, who was selected with the 169th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft by the Red Wings.
Set to attend Yale University next season, Guimond will also be playing for the Moncton Wildcats in the upcoming Memorial Cup in the QMJHL Finals, which begin on Saturday:
He's gone an impressive 16-0 with a 1.73 GAA and .940 SV%.
The season is now over for the Grand Rapids Griffins, who were beaten by the Texas Stars in the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Late last month, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman
called out the play of goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa, saying the club needs more from him.
We're looking for him to take another step. I'm not prepared today to put him in the NHL. He had a very good first two-thirds of the season, his play dipped a little bit after the American League All-Star break, and this is a big playoffs for him. So, I'm not ruling anything out, but he's going to have to take another step here if we want to count on him to be here in Detroit next year.
You look at the best teams in the league, generally they have a real horse that they can ride in net on a regular basis. We're not in that position yet. We're hopeful to be there one day, whether that's with our draft picks or (if we have) to go look elsewhere for that guy, we will.
