The Detroit Red Wings goalie prospect Rudy Guimond was selected in the sixth round in the 2023 NHL Draft, and has made a career-altering move by committing to the Harvard Crimson.
Rudy Guimond is a 6-foot-3, 166-pound goalie who was selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
In the last two seasons of his career, he had played in the USHL, playing a total of 38 games for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders.
He played 16 games last season with the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL, also ending the year with a 1.73 GAA and a .940 save percentage.
Now, he's made a career-changing move that could cause his stock to skyrocket further, as he's committed to the Harvard Crimson.
He'll join other NHL prospects who can make the jump to the NCAA instead of remaining in the CHL, which could give him a leg up when the time comes to turn professional.
Guimond would punch above his weight class (6th-round) by playing a total of 9 games in the QMJHL playoffs, with a record of 2.25 GAA, and a .916 save percentage. He has nothing left to prove in the CHL, and it does make sense for him to make the move at this point in his career.
The Red Wings' prospect pool continues to flourish, and Guimond could be a cornerstone in the team's lineup in the very near future.
Though he'll have to compete with Trey Augustine and
Sebastian Cossa when he does turn pro.
Guimond would drafted 169th overall in the 6th-round of the 2023 NHL Draft.
