Detroit Red Wings have two vacant job openings after off-season firings announced

The Detroit Red Wings are cleaning up old hires, as they have recently fired Alex Westlund and LJ Scarpace.

Westlund was the Red Wings' goalie coach, and Scarpace was one of the team's video coaches. The two wouldn't have been targeted we assumed, if either of their work was up to par, seeing as the Red Wings goaltending had been in the dumps this season.

The duo of Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon had performed poorly this season. Poor enough to be ranked 22nd overall in save percentage in a 32-team league.

Could this suggest more personnel moves down the road, including the fate of Alex Lyon?

Both positions are important in the organization, which is why they were slated for a change at the end of the regular season.

Westlund, was originally a Derek Lalonde hire during the 2022 season and originally was a part of the Hershey Bears organization.

While Scarpace was originally hired during the 2019-2020 season as video coach and worked with both Jeff Blashill and Derek Lalonde.

Scarpace and Westlund were both gears in a greater machine that wasn't moving at the pace it needed to. So now, the team is resetting part of the coaching staff, as McLellan will hire his people to push the Red Wings in a new direction in 2025-2026.

Hopefully, a winning one.
