Martin Necas joined the Colorado Avalanche this season, despite a playoff run, it appears he's not happy there, as a pending UFA in 2026, it'd do well for Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings to keep tabs on Necas, as he could be a trade target before free agency.

While the majority of NHL fans salivate at the idea of landing a superstar like Connor McDavid on their team, you have to be more realistic, especially if you're not a contender.
For rebuilding teams, they need young talent that understands the expectations involved with their long-term goals. Martin Necas could be part of something special in Detroit, which is continuously improving its lineup as more and more prospects are trickling into Grand Rapids and Detroit.
Martin Necas is a reliable 70-80 point producer and has found himself on an Avalanche team he's not happy with. Like in Carolina, he could force a trade or test free agency in July, and Steve Yzerman needs to keep tabs on him in case he becomes available either way.
This season, he scored 83 points (26-57) split between the Avalanche and the Hurricanes.
At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, he has a sizable frame that could be beneficial to the Red Wings on the ice, as he's got wheels and can impose his will on the ice. Necas is in the final year of his bridge deal and could make an immediate impact in the Red Wings' lineup this season.
His cap hit at $6.5 million AAV is manageable under the cap space available, and the buy-in may be a couple of prospects, picks, or a combination of the two for him.
With the possibility of Necas testing free agency, the Avalanche will undoubtedly want something in return for a talented winger they paid a pretty price for.
Necas could make the Red Wings deeper as a unit, given the fact that they already have Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond.
Once his bridge deal expires, we could expect him to seize a payday upwards of $8-9 million AAV, given his current production.
