Detroit Red Wings reportedly pull off worst signing of the summer: "Worst in the entire NHL"
According to the YouTube personality "OhNyquist," who is a prominent personality in the hockey community, the Detroit Red Wings' recent signing was one of the worst in the team's history, and this summer throughout the NHL.
The Detroit Red Wings have concluded the postseason dealings that we know of.
The team would subtract Vladimir Tarasenko, Craig Smith, Joe Veleno, and Petr Mrazek along the way.
Steve Yzerman would also sign Mason Appleton, James Van Riemsdyk, Jacob Bernard-Docker, and Ian Mitchell.
No major talent was acquired during the postseason. Of course, we can't include prospects in these discussions, as none of them are NHL-ready, and Yzerman failed to leverage even one in an attempt to upgrade the team's top six.
«Oh who cares it's only 1 year, it's cheap depth» you're going to care when somebody on the blue line gets hurt and Hamonic has to play and he gets caved in. The Red Wings pro scouting staff might be the worst in the entire NHL."
Is The Yzerplan Sitting On Its Yzerhands?
He rightfully took shots at the team's pro-scouting staff, who helped bring in some depth options at best.
Instead of bringing in a top-six forward, he'd bring in James Van Riemsdyk, who's at the tail end of his career. Ian Mitchell is a career AHLer, while Jacob Bernard-Docker is a fringe NHLer.
While he's whiffed on Nikolaj Ehlers, Sam Bennett, and other NHL stars that could've provided grittiness in the forward core, missing.
Honestly, the criticism may come off a bit immature, but the point he's made still stands. It is another case of the Yzerplan sitting on its Yzerhands.
After a 6th place finish in the Atlantic, you'd think Steve Yzerman would do more than he could've.
Either way, disappointment once again reigns supreme in Hockeytown.
