The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly planning to take the high road in response to a forward's trade request.

It seems some Red Wings players aren't happy with the way things have gone down in Detroit this season. After Dylan Larkin lashed out at general manager Steve Yzerman in his exit interview, it appears another member of the team didn't like the overall direction of the team.
Frank Seravalli revealed recently that indeed, Vladimir Tarasenko could be leaving the team this summer.
"There was word that Tarasenko wasn't thrilled with his arrangement in Detroit, leaving open the possibility that he's on the move this summer for a better fit."
Another report suggested that the Red Wings could be tempted to buy out his contract if they can't trade him, considering that he's past his prime and his stint in Detroit hasn't worked out the way it was hoped:
"If the Red Wings aren't able to trade Tarasenko by the deadline this season, he should be a buyout candidate in the offseason and it makes a lot of sense. It wasn't the best signing for Detroit to ink Tarasenko to a two-year deal at $4.75 million AAV with a full no-trade clause this season and an 8-team trade list next season

Tarasenko is clearly past his prime, and the Red Wings had some extra money to throw around, but he hasn't fit in this season and the experiment has to end sooner than later. Whether the Red Wings are in the playoffs or not, there are young players pushing for spots and it will likely lead to a buyout of the final year of his contract in the summer."

With the money that would be freed up by Tarasenko's contract, Yzerman could go after a big fish, such as Aaron Ekblad or Mitch Marner, per The Athletic:
"Buying out Vladimir Tarasenko was part of that, freeing up $3.16 million in cap savings, and in this scenario, the big addition was Aaron Ekblad - one of the top two defensemen on the free-agent market. I'd imagine Ekblad and Vladislav Gavrikov will cost about the same, so you can imagine him in that top four instead if you'd like, but I felt Ekblad's local ties (he's a Windsor native) made him a little more realistic."

Tarasenko, 33, scored 33 points, including 11 goals, in 80 games, He has one more season on his $4.75 million AAV contract.
