Detroit Red Wings sign top prospect Michael Brandsegg-Nygard
The Detroit Red Wings continue their proactive approach in securing their first-round draft picks. On Thursday, they agreed to terms with their 2024 top draftee, Michael Brandsegg-Nygård, on a three-year entry-level contract.
The Norwegian forward signed just 13 days after being selected 15th overall.
Detroit GM Steve Yzerman praised Brandsegg-Nygård's responsible play and versatility, noting his ability to contribute even when not scoring. Red Wings director of player development Dan Cleary highlighted the young forward's puck protection, shooting, and drive to improve his skating and strength.
Since Yzerman's tenure began in 2019, Detroit has signed all eight of their first-round picks, including notable players like Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, and Simon Edvinsson, who are set to play in Detroit next season. Centers Nate Danielson, Marco Kasper, and goalie Sebastian Cossa are expected to play for the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins. Brandsegg-Nygård and Axel Sandin Pellikka will join reigning SHL champions Skelleftea for the 2024-25 campaign.
