Dylan Larkin's Statement On The 2025-26 Red Wings
«We're going to have some guys that are gonna come up and impress and hopefully solidify themselves for a bright future in their careers and for our team,»
It's a sign that the team he bemoaned as incapable of reaching the playoffs last season could improve significantly as new players trickle into the lineup. With players like
Marco Kasper,
Elmer Soderblom, and
Nate Danielson (who could make the lineup), the Wings will look new and improved.
The team finished 6th in the Atlantic Division, and an infusion of new blood could improve their standings in the NHL.
Yzerman's new lineup will be harder to play against, but they will need to focus on goal-scoring after last season. The Red Wings scored 235 goals, which was good enough for a ranking of 22nd out of 32 NHL teams.
The Red Wings will depend on secondary scoring from players like Marco Kasper and Elmer Soderblom to make up the deficits.
Yzerman would acquire
Mason Appleton, who will be a good depth forward in the lineup. Appleton scored 10-12-22 in 71 games and is known for his ability to help his team control the ice every time he steps on it.
Goalie
John Gibson will improve the netminding this season. He is set to be the Red Wings' starting goalie for the foreseeable future until
Sebastian Cossa is ready to take the reins from him.
It will take time for the team to adapt to the new McLellan system. A system that the team started learning near the end of the 2024-25 season.
But once they do, could the playoffs be in the cards?
The Derek Lalonde era in 2023-24 saw the team miss out on a playoff run thanks to the Washington Capitals, who would force their game against the Philadelphia Flyers into overtime.
