Elliotte Friedman exposes Steve Yzerman's true plan in free agency and it's a let down

While Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman is taking heat right now for the lack of move during the offseason, Elliotte Friedman explained, that unless he was able to sign a big free agent like Nikolaj Ehlers, he wouldn't block a promotion of a prospect from the AHL to the NHL.
Rebuilds take time and patience. Development is a long-term, sometimes non-linear process. For Yzerman, he's been delicately crafting the new Red Wings team, which is still in its infancy.
While fans are upset with Yzerman's lack of meaningful moves this postseason, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman had a reasonable explanation for it.
Yzerman doesn't plan on blocking any movement from the Grand Rapids Griffins to the NHL.
This may signal a chance for more prospects of the team to be promoted as time progresses.
This is great news, as arguably, Marco Kasper has put on a show in the latter part of the NHL season, and is undoubtedly going to be one former Griffins players who has found himself at home in Hockeytown.
But with all the new talent that should be trickling in, that means Yzerman will have his choice of prospects to promote, and we're wondering if that might include Michael Brandsegg-Nygard or William Wallinder.
It may be too soon for them just yet, with Nygard recently making the transition from the SHL to the AHL, so he'll need to get accommodated to NHL ice.
But, there are plenty of questions to ask, as we can clearly tell the next phase of the rebuild is about to begin.
