The former Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk issued a statement after receiving a major personal honor for his on-ice accomplishments.
Red Wings legend Pavel Datsyuk was officially inducted into the Russian Hockey Hall of Fame on June 6th, after a legendary career in the NHL, KHL, and the international scene as well.
Datsyuk retired after the 2020-21 season, following a career spanning over 20 years, including 14 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, where he scored 918 points in 953 regular season games, as well as 113 points, including 42 goals, in 157 games.
Member of the "Triple Gold Club", among players who won a Stanley Cup, a World Championship and an Olympic Gold Medal, he was also inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024.
Back then, Datsyuk made a heartfelt speech, in which he thanked his parents, his family, and everyone who helped him in his career:
"I want to thank my parents. You were always there and were my support, taught me to work, guided and believed in me, even when I made mistakes. You live in my heart.
I also want to thank my family, who support me in everything. We have achieved a lot together. You are my source of strength. I love you.
I would like to thank the coaches and mentors who have shaped my career. You have taught me not only discipline and game skills, but also the values of leadership, the strength of team unity. Each has played a role in my growth as a player and as a person.
And of course, thanks to my teammates. Hockey is a team sport. I wouldn't be standing here without each of my teammates. We shared unforgettable moments together. I was lucky to play with the greatest athletes. I will always cherish our time together."
Now a member of two Hockey Hall of Fames, it's safe to say Datsyuk's career has been given the recognition it deserves.
