The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly nearing a trigger-pull on a blockbuster trade for a Calgary Flames defenseman.

While the Calgary Flames have been attempting to perform damage control to label their actions as the start of a rebuild.
However, their choices say otherwise.
The next big piece to fall in the Flames camp is Rasmus Andersson, a defenseman previously linked to the Detroit Red Wings via a recent trade report.
One NHL insider, Frank Seravalli, believes the Flames are attempting to fast-track a move for the 27-year-old defenseman with a timeline in place.
Seravalli addressed the trade rumors before the holiday break. He specified that the team didn't want their issue to drag out longer than it should.
«I know for certain the Flames would like to try and make a move with Rasmus Andersson somewhere between the holiday freeze ending and that Olympic freeze [Feb. 4] beginning,» Seravalli said. «I don't think they wanna leave this to the other side of the Olympics.»

The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly in the runnings to make a trade for Rasmus Andersson, and use Andersson to bolster the ranks of the blue line on the right side.
"That window matters, and clearly Calgary, it seems, wants clarity fast, ahead of the trade deadline, which will be just around the corner once the game returns from Milan."

With $12 million in cap space, the Original Six squad could be the one to land Andersson after the Olympic break in February.

The Detroit Red Wings could land Rasmus Andersson of the Calgary Flames

Ramus Andersson has playoff experience and leadership experience in Calgary, wearing the "A" patch. He can eat big minutes on the ice and could become a cornerstone in Detroit, as he has in the Flames uniform.
As a highly valued asset, it makes sense for Craig Conroy to deal him for prospects and picks instead of keeping him in a bad situation, which he's in now.
At a $4.5 million cap hit, he's a reasonable cost and could be a welcome addition to the roster if he's signed long-term.
Would you believe a trade proposal for Andersson would be hefty or modest?
