Veleno spent his junior days with the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL in Quebec, it will be a familiar territory for the 25-year old forward.
During the March 7th NHL trade deadline, the Detroit Red Wings traded Joe Veleno to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for goaltender Petr Mrazek and forward Craig Smith.
Following a recent announcement on Tuesday, the Red Wings cut ties with the 14-year NHL veteran Craig Smith, making Petr Mrazek the only staying asset of the deal made by Steve Yzerman.

Joe Veleno's contract AAV with the Montreal Canadiens

An official statement by the Montreal Canadiens, followed by a report from The Fourth Period insider David Pagnotta, confirms that Veleno will earn $900K AAV on his one-year deal with his new Original Six team.
"Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Wednesday that the team has agreed to terms on a one-year, one-way contract with forward Joe Veleno.

Veleno played 74 games with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks in 2024-25, scoring eight goals and adding nine assists. The Montreal native was traded to the Blackhawks at the NHL Trade Deadline and recorded seven points (3G, 4A) in 18 games with Chicago to conclude his fifth NHL campaign."
