Former Detroit Red Wings goaltender inks PTO with Toronto Maple Leafs
A former Detroit Red Wings goaltender signed a professional tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a very strong goalie tandem with
Anthony Stolarz and
Joseph Woll. With the two of them healthy, the team could be ready for a big season.
The General Manager of the organization, Brad Treliving, considered his options to replace him in training camp and decided to sign a former member of the Detroit Red Wings to a PTO.
Indeed, the 37-year-old veteran James Reimer, who played for the Detroit Red Wings in the 2023-24 season, will provide depth in the Toronto Maple Leafs net while Joseph Woll is away from the team.
Reimer, who spent the first six seasons of his career in Toronto, is an interesting option in the competition to fill in for Woll.
Dennis Hildeby,
Artur Akhtyamov, and
Vyacheslav Peksa are also competing for the backup role behind Anthony Stolarz, but a veteran like Reimer could bring more edge to the locker room.
After Toronto, he was traded to San Jose, then had stops in Carolina, Detroit, Buffalo, and Anaheim.
In his year with the Wings, he had an 11-8-2 record with a 3.11 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.
Last season, he split time between Buffalo and Anaheim, going 10-10-2 with a 3.04 GAA and .896 SV%. In 525 career games in the NHL, he has a record of 225-187-65, with a .910 SV% and 2.89 GAA.
