Is there an issue between Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman and captain Dylan Larkin? Former 4-time Stanley Cup champion Darren McCarty weighs in.
There was much made about the comments from Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin after the season ended without a playoff spot; Larkin openly said that he and the rest of his teammates were discouraged after there were no meaningful moves made at the Trade Deadline.
Recently, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman said that he had a private conversation with Larkin and that he wouldn't elaborate any further, but that Larkin is welcome to discuss the matter if he would like to.
While there have been no shortage of interpretations and guess work as to exactly what the strength of the business relationship between Yzerman and Larkin is right now, former Red Wings forward Darren McCarty is weighing in.
While appearing on a Woodward Sports Network segment, McCarty said that he doesn't blame Larkin for his frustration but also noted that maybe he needs to see the bigger picture.
That's the thing, and I think what Stevie said is the way that Steve is. He has nothing to hide from whatever, but it's sort of the frustration, the maturity and maybe the lack of communication between the two of them that needs to get better, I don't know. But again, someone go ask Dylan and see if he says something. We'll see where it is now.
I think this was handled with some questions. Like I said before, I didn't take anything away from Dylan being frustrated, but I don't think he looked at the bigger picture of what he represents when he said that.

The Red Wings are facing a critical summer; many fans want to see the organization get more aggressive in an effort to end their postseason drought, which is now the longest in team history.
