After the Detroit Red Wings' 4-2 victory against the San Jose Sharks on Friday, Head Coach Todd McLellan sent a stark message to the team's captain, Dylan Larkin.

Captain Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings is the workhorse of the organization. He's been a part of the team since the 2016 season and has set himself apart with his work ethic and his passionate play.
His example shone on the ice during Friday's face-off against the San Jose Sharks, where Larkin completed a historic milestone as a Red Wings player.
Larkin's third-period, game-winning goal was his 266th career tally and put him in 10th place in Red Wings history for goals, moving past John Ogrodnick.
The team is proud of what he's accomplished, and head coach Todd McLellan sent a clear message on what he means to the organization.
"Dylan cares immensely," McLellan said. "He cares about the city, the team, the organization, his teammates, and he's driven. He is a proud Red Wing, he's a proud captain, and that's really important."

Detroit Red Wings' Dylan Larkin climbs in the franchise history books after Friday

The Centennial season has been an amazing year for players and fans alike. As the team gets to witness significant history being etched in the franchise's books.
And teammates who have grown together as linemates, such as Lucas Raymond has felt that his latest record was well-earned and expect him to keep climbing the ladder as a Red Wings player.
"He puts in a lot of work and carries a big load for the team on and off the ice," Raymond continued. "I'm happy for him, and hopefully he can climb a couple more spots."

We've seen Larkin express consternation with the team's direction after a loss of the wild-card spot before the playoffs. Larkin would clash with Steve Yzerman due to his lack of movement during the trade deadline.
His tenure with the team since 2016 has led to a desire to return to the playoffs. He's only seen the postseason once. The hunger for another trip has been a driving factor.
Fortunately, last season the Red Wings fired Derek Lalonde and hired Todd McLellan, who has turned the organization around.
It'll be up to him to help lead the team deep into April, should they luck into a playoff spot in a tight Eastern Conference race. As the leader of a legendary franchise, he has plenty of examples to learn from on accomplishing something bigger, like winning a Stanley Cup.
