A new report has linked Edmonton Oilers star forward Connor McDavid to the Detroit Red Wings' longtime Original Six rival, and it's surprising.

Within the most recent weeks, several major contract extensions have been handed out around the National Hockey League, yet still none involving Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid.
However, at this time, arguably the best professional hockey player in the world is seemingly comfortable letting his situation pan out throughout the 2025/26 NHL season.
That being said, his decision is very understandable, as McDavid is now a decade into his professional career, and all that matters at this point is winning a championship.
At least that is what majority of the hockey world believes.
As a Stanley Cup is speculated to be McDavid's number one priority, new insight by an NHL reporter has unveiled that family is just as important, which could lead to this superstar landing back home.

Connor McDavid linked to Detroit Red Wings' longtime Original Six rivals, Toronto Maple Leafs

According to recent insight by Dave Jenkins of NHL Trade Rumors, Connor McDavid may be enticed to make his way back home to his family and join the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"But here's where my sources tell me the story takes a turn. While the hockey world is fixated on the dollars and cents, the real story might be about family. McDavid and his wife, Lauren, have deep roots in the Toronto area. The pull of starting a family and being close to loved ones is a powerful one, and it's a factor that can't be quantified in a salary cap spreadsheet. The Toronto Maple Leafs have the cap space and the geographical advantage. Come July 1, 2026, we could see the best player in the world trade in his orange and blue for the blue and white," Jenkins wrote.
This 28-year-old forward is currently set to enter the final year of his eight-year, $100 million contract extension, which he signed with the Edmonton Oilers in 2017, where he is expected to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) next summer.
