The Detroit Red Wings organization revealed decisive injury news on their former sixth overall pick ahead of the final two games of the preseason.
The 2025-26 NHL season will start in less than a week, but there are still two more preseason games that must be played by the Red Wings before we get to the first official regular season game, against the Montreal Canadiens, on October 9th.
Preseasons are a great way for players to find rhythm before the real season starts, but as of now, a key player hasn't had an opportunity to play as he dealt with an injury.
Yesterday, the Wings head coach Todd McLellan announced when the player will be back in the lineup.
Todd McLellan Reveals Simon Edvinsson's Return Date
McLellan stated in a press conference that Edvinsson will play in the two remaining preseason games, tonight and Saturday, against the Maple Leafs.
Red Wings reporter Daniella Bruce shared the news on X, while adding that the 37-year-old veteran forward James van Riemsdyk joined the team but will need time to get back to full speed:
"Simon will play both (the final preseason) games, providing his health holds up, but we anticipate that it will. He'll need them. I think he's playing catch-up a little bit, for him as an individual, but also for everybody else."
Edvinsson is among the young Wings players expected to make massive strides this season.
The 22-year-old defenseman is coming off a 37-point, +12 plus/minus season with Detroit.
