A longtime NHL defenseman has announced his retirement from pro hockey at the age of 41, the NHL alumni announced.

Patrick Thoresen has announced his retirement after a long, storied career.
This comes a short period of time after a young Red Wings defenseman retired at the age of 26.
"Patrick Thoresen has announced his retirement from professional hockey.

Patrick signed with the EdmontonOilers ahead of the 2006-07 season, making his
@NHL debut on October 5, 2006. One week later, on October 12, Patrick scored his first career goal and would play 68 games in his rookie season.

In February 2008, Patrick joined the NHLFlyers, appearing in 21 regular-season games with Philadelphia. When Patrick took the ice for the Flyers in game one of the 2008 Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals, he became the first Norwegian-born player to ever play in a Stanley Cup playoff game."

Thoresen had a storied career overseas

"After his time in Philadelphia, Patrick continued his professional career overseas, enjoying a successful career that featured seven seasons in his home country of Norway.

Internationally, Patrick appeared in 105 games for the Norwegian men's national team, including 3 Olympic tournaments.
