A deal appears to be on the horizon between GM Stan Bowman of the Edmonton Oilers and the Detroit Red Wings, who are reportedly the Detroit Red Wings' goalie prospects, Trey Augustine, and Sebastian Cossa?

The Detroit Red Wings have the benefit of a deep prospect pool. It gives them a chance to make deals when times are tough, and currently, both Sebastian Cossa and Trey Augustine are drawing interest from one team in particular.
The Edmonton Oilers and GM Stan Bowman need to upgrade the crease for now and the future, as it seems Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard may not be the chosen duo in Oil country.
Elite Prospects Cam Robinson revealed on the Sekeres and Price Podcast that the Edmonton Oilers were snooping around the Red Wings prospect pool:
«They're looking a little more long-term, they've got their field of vision a little bit wider,» Robinson said of the Oilers' goalie search. «I was told that they have contacted Detroit. I believe the first person they asked about was Trey Augustine, and I think that was a non-starter.

«They have a six-foot-six, six-foot-seven, former first-rounder in Sebastian Cossa sitting there.»

What Would A Deal for Cossa Look Like?

While it's no surprise they're looking to upgrade after they've lost twice in the finals to the Panthers, their solution in the net could be Sebastian Cossa.
Cossa was a former 1st-round pick by the Detroit Red Wings (15th overall in 2021) and has played in the AHL since 2022.
This past season, he's made a name for himself with a record of 21-15-5, 2.45 GAA, and a .911 SV%.
He could be the one to solve the Oilers' woes down the road. While it appears they've taken aim at Trey Augustine, it's doubtful that the Red Wings would let their future starting goalie go at this point in time.
Cossa would be the answer for the Oilers, while the Red Wings could net more assets in return for one of their top prospects.
In the last three seasons, he's had an SV% of at least .911 or higher in both the ECHL and AHL.
But what would he end up costing the Oilers? Mattias Ekholm, and a couple of draft picks?
We'll find out soon enough, should an actual deal happen.
