A longtime staple of Detroit sports broadcasts in the last 25 years is out of a job after FanDuel Sports Detroit has decided to make changes to their broadcasts.

A longtime staple of Detroit sports broadcasts has found out that his position was eliminated as part of the ongoing massive changes country-wide in Regional Sports Networks.
Mickey York, who has been part of Detroit Lions, Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons broadcasts since 2000, announced that he was included in the cost-cutting measures of FanDuel Sports, formerly known as Bally Sports and Fox Sports.
York announced the news on his personal X account:
Some personal news: After 25 years with Fox/Bally/Fan Duel Sports Network my position has been eliminated. The Detroit Tigers are going in a different direction with their broadcasts and regretfully I will no longer be a part of those productions. I'm not sure what's next.

Hope I haven't done my last show in Detroit, but for now I would like to say thanks for allowing me into your homes and sporting lives. As a sports crazy kid growing up in the suburbs of Detroit it's been an opportunity beyond my wildest dreams and I never took it for granted.

Guess I'm entering free agency. If, for whatever reason, you find yourself missing me and you're into cars you can find me at http://cruisnmedia.com. Hope to see you soon and from the bottom of my heart. Thanks for watching, Good night, kids!

During an interview with The Detroit News on Tuesday, York said that while he didn't get to fulfill his dreams of playing professional football, covering it and other professional sports was his backup plan and he was fortunate to make the most of it for a quarter century.
Oh, yeah, for sure. Once I figured out I wouldn't play professional football, I knew I wanted to be involved in sports in some way. This was the goal, I put all my eggs in one basket. I didn't have a backup plan, and I still don't.

This was always going to be it.

York is a graduate of Central Michigan University.
