The Detroit Red Wings must address these issues before training camp

The Detroit Red Wings need to get their act together before the start of the 2025-2026 NHL season. They were outclassed on the ice this season in all zones and only had a few bright spots in the lineup on an inconsistent team.

One of those being forward Patrick Kane. But Kane alone cannot solve the team's issues by himself.

Tempers flared at the end of the season when Captain Dylan Larkin would call out GM Steve Yzerman for his lack of meaningful trades in March. Yzerman's lack of action continued the Red Wings free-fall, and inability to land a wild card spot in the East.

While we don't know the true scope of the feelings of this organization, Larkin could've been speaking for himself, and others as well.

Yzerman claimed to have discussed the topic with Larkin beforehand and would let him comment on the matter during exit interviews.

Was Larkin's comment a sign that the team was secretly boiling over?

In a matter such as this, when a player of Larkin's stature disagrees with a GM or Coach in a public setting, the lede is being set up for the GM or Coach's firing.

The players would stay, but however it seems Yzerman, like another original-six GM Don Sweeney has free reign.

Either way, it seems that the players truly don't trust GM Steve Yzerman to do his job. After six seasons in Detroit, Yzerman has failed to take the team to the playoffs once, while the "Yzerplan" has stagnated.

As the tension is apparent off the ice, you have to wonder about the future of this team. With the bar being continually lowered, will Yzerman shift gears and be aggressive in July?

Either way, we could see a major shift after Larkin wasn't afraid to speak negatively about Yzerman's job, which may be too cozy at this point in his tenure.
