There is news out of the Motor City that directly affects a beloved former enforcer that was never afraid to drop the gloves against an opponent.

There were few more feared players during his National Hcokey League than Joey Kocur, a multi-winning Stanley Cup champion on the ice during his playing career before he delved into coaching.
And he will be one of the keynote speakers at the Dresden Sports Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony next month.
Per the official press release, Kocur will be one of the main presenters during the ceremony.
Veteran broadcaster Trevor Thompson of Dresden will receive the first Bruce Huff Memorial Award given to a media member for their outstanding sports coverage while representing the community.

Thompson is a reporter and host in Detroit on the FanDuel Sports Network. Huff, who died in 2024, wrote for The London Free Press, Toronto Sun and Toronto Star during a journalism career that lasted more than half a century.

Paul Bellamy is the male athlete inductee. He played two seasons with the Peterborough Petes, who chose him in the first round of the 1982 Ontario Hockey League draft, and later skated for Brock University.

Cathy Depencier is the female athlete, Gord Peters is the legend and Ian Avery is the builder. Avery is a longtime teacher and coach at Lambton-Kent composite school and also president of the Dresden Minor Hockey Association.

Kocur was mostly known for the use of his fists during his NHL career, which included 3 Stanley Cup wins; he reached the hockey mountain top with the New York Rangers in 1994 before being convinced to re-join the Red Wings in 1997; he won back to back Cups with them in 1997 and 1998.
