Red Wings will be pursuing two-time Stanley Cup Champion in summer free agency

Per a recent report from Josh Yeho of The Athletic, the Red Wings could potentially be making a run at Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bran Rust this summer.
The Detroit Red Wings are going to be facing a critical offseason in which general manager Steve Yzerman will be feeling pressure to make substantial additions to the roster with the ample salary cap space they'll have at their disposal.
While there are a fair amount of Red Wings fans who would love to see the team target Mitch Marner of the divisional foe Toronto Maple Leafs in what would be a major shift in the Atlantic, Josh Yohe of The Athletic indicates that the Red Wings could potentially have interest in Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust.
Teams are going to call Dubas in a hurry when July 1 arrives. Why? That's when Bryan Rust's no-movement clause expires.
I don't believe the Penguins are interested in moving him.
But that won't stop teams from calling. A Penguins source has indicated Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings are fans of Rust, which makes sense for their needs. What a wonderful addition he would be to a young team with talent. He's playing perhaps the best hockey of his career, he's a great leader and you may have heard that he's scored a clutch goal or two in his day.

Rust has been one of the bright spots in an otherwise mostly miserable Penguins year, so far, with 47 points (21G, 26A) in 55 games and is on pace for 58 points, which would tie his previous career-best output in 2021-22.
Several contracts will be coming off the Red Wings' books this summer, including Patrick Kane, Tyler Motte, Craig Smith, Alex Lyon, and Jeff Petry.
Rust is under contract for another 3 years with an AAV (average annual value) of $5,125,000.
