The Grand Rapids Griffins are reportedly picking up some big-time reinforcements before the Calder Cup Playoffs.
One of the main refrains that a segment of the Detroit Red Wings fan base likes to repeat is the "just wait for the kids" mantra as a way of looking past the current disappointments.
The Red Wings do have one of the more highly regarded prospect pools in the NHL, and a pair of young players have already made a significant impact on their year in
Simon Edvinsson and
Marco Kasper.
There still remain several names in the pipeline - and according to a new report, it looks like a few of them are on the verge of taking the next step in their professional careers.
Prospect defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka, forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygård and goaltender Trey Augustine are reportedly set to join the Grand Rapids Griffins.
This is isn't breaking news or whatever you want to call it. But on trip to Grand Rapids today was told there is s chance Griffins could have Axel Sandin-Pellika, Michael Brandsegg-Nygård, and Trey Augustine for Calder Cup playoffs. Obviously moving parts and such, but possible.
Meanwhile, Augustine has won Big Ten goaltender of the year with the Michigan State Spartans, located about 90 minutes away from downtown Detroit in East Lansing.
The ceiling of Brandsegg-Nygård, who had just 11 points (5G, 6A) in 42 games with Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish League remains to be seen.
