The Detroit Red Wings roster will look remarkably different during the 2025-2026 NHL season, and fans won't be happy.

Hockeytown Rundown is a podcast that covers the Detroit Red Wings, and got news of what the team's 2025-2026 roster will look like.
If it looks like anything, how it is now, we should expect the team to be tanking.
The Red Wings, at the moment, are 6th in the Atlantic Division with a record of 34-33-7 and not even fringe playoff contenders.
That's to be expected when your roster is chock full of veteran placeholders in the lineup like Jeff Petry and Justin Holl.
This is how the opening roster for 2024-2025 looked:
The forwards that made the team as of today are Jonatan Berggren, J.T. Compher, Andrew Copp, Alex DeBrincat, Christian Fischer, Patrick Kane, Dylan Larkin, Tyler Motte, Michael Rasmussen, Lucas Raymond, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Joe Veleno. The defenseman are Ben Chairot, Simon Edvinsson, Erik Gustafsson, Albert Johansson, Olli Maata, Jeff Petry, and Moritz Seider. Finally, the three goalies as expected are Ville Husso, Alex Lyon, and Cam Talbot.

The team looks remarkably different after going through the trade deadline and putting players like Christian Fischer on waivers.
Joe Veleno and Olli Maata are no longer with the team, while Ville Husso now plays for the Anaheim Ducks.
We shouldn't expect the roster to look any worse than it is now, but GM Steve Yzerman could surprise us in July.
It's difficult to find the bright spots in the lineup, as Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, and Lucas Raymond are the only ones who play with the kind of passion to win.
Should we expect some surprises in July? From the sounds of it, there could be major turnover.
