Todd McLellan reveals that an injury ruined standout skaters hopes at making the Red Wings roster

Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan revealed that an injury ruined a standout forward's hopes of making the roster during training camp.
He had a great training camp and has kept developing to reach his potential over the past two years in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The 2023 ninth overall pick impressed a lot during the preseason on a line alongside fellow top prospects Emmitt Finnie and Michael Brandsegg-Nygaard.
Unfortunately, the player got injured during last Saturday's exhibition game against the Buffalo Sabres and hasn't returned to the lineup since.
Head coach Todd McLellan shared an update on him, making a massive statement about what would've happened if he hadn't gotten injured.
Danielson Would've Made The Team If He Hadn't Gotten Injured, Per Todd McLellan
In a recent press conference, Todd McLellan revealed that he didn't have a timeline for Danielson's return but stated that the forward resumed skating.
He added that he believes the player was building a strong case to make the team and that he probably would've made it if he hadn't gotten injured.
In his own words:
"He's skating, so that's good. I don't have a timeline yet. I haven't heard that. But the fact that he put the equipment on and went and skated, it's a good sign."
"I think a guy like (Danielson), in my opinion, from what I saw, would have had an outstanding opportunity to make the team. And probably doesn't want to hear me saying that, but yet I think he does.
We need to get him healthy because I think he could play here, but that changes things. All of a sudden somebody else gets another lifeline, but they need to take advantage of it."
