Former Detroit Red Wings player Robby Fabbri was released from his professional tryout by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced an important wave of roster cuts today after playing their final exhibition game last night.
Despite winning 5-4 against the Buffalo Sabres last night, Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins decided to send nine players to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL, including five who'll need to clear waivers.
The team has also released Robby Fabbri from his PTO.

Fabbri signed a PTO with the Penguins during the offseason but will now be looking to pursue his hockey career elsewhere, as he couldn't convince the team's management to keep him around, even in the AHL.
During camp, Fabbri made headlines when he landed a massive hit on top Calder Trophy candidate, Montreal Canadiens forward Ivan Demidov:
But other than that, he didn't have much to show.
Last season, the 29-year-old forward tallied 16 points, including eight goals, in 44 games with the Anaheim Ducks. Prior to that, he spent five years with the Detroit Red Wings.
In 442 NHL career games, he scored 106 goals and recorded 110 assists for a total of 216 points. He had the best season of his career during his rookie year, when he tallied 37 points in 72 games with the St. Louis Blues.
The other players cut from the Penguins' camp who are going to the AHL are Avery Hayes, Sergei Murashov, Owen Pickering, and Tristan Broz.
Today, an official waiver update should confirm that Alexander Alexeyev, Ryan Graves, Rafael Harvey-Pinard, Boko Imama, and Sam Poulin will be available to all 32 teams for the next 24 hours.
